BAR MANAGER



Organization:  Aurora Civic Center Authority



The Aurora Civic Center Authority (ACCA), an innovative organization located on the Fox River in the heart of historic Aurora, Illinois (one hour from downtown Chicago), is seeking a Bar Manager. The organization operates four venues: the 6,000-person RiverEdge Park, the 1,843-seat landmark Paramount Theatre, the 173-seat Copley Theatre and the 250 capacity Meyer Ballroom. ACCA produces and presents over 300 performances each year, including star-studded touring productions and a self-produced Broadway Series of musicals, which has amassed over 41,000 series subscribers in nine seasons, and is the second-largest musical theater subscription based in the United States. ACCA proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Paramount School of the Arts on June 1, 2019 in the John C. Dunham Aurora Arts Center, right next door to Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora.



DEPARTMENT – Front of House



DIRECT REPORTING – Director of Front of House Management



POSITION STATUS & SCHEDULE – Full time, with benefits; hours vary and will require evenings, weekends, summers and holidays.



HIRE DATE – Immediate



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –




  • Recruit, hire, train, develop and schedule bartenders and bar backs for all ACCA locations

  • Manage Front of House Operations Associate

  • Assist the Director of FOH Operations in managing costs, driving sales and growing the business in support of the financial and organizational goals

  • Develop and coach staff in service excellence

  • Ensure bar space follows all health and safety guidelines

  • Manage monthly inventory process

  • Maintain stock levels and order supplies when necessary

  • Assist in preparation of operating budget and financial plans which support the overall objectives of the Front of House Department

  • Design specialty drink cocktails for 8 series shows a year



In addition to the duties listed above, ACCA expects the following of each employee:  adheres to ACCA’s policies and procedures; works in a safe manner; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates efficient time management and prioritizes workload; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; meets productivity standards; participates in ACCA events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES –




  • 2+ years of Restaurant / Bar Management experience with an emphasis on high volume, quick service

  • Live Entertainment / Theatre background a plus

  • Current driver’s license

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Must be dependable, reliable and motivated

  • Legally able to serve alcohol and BASSETT Certified within 30 days of employment

  • Food Safe Manager Certification obtained within 30 days of employment

  • Strong computer aptitude, which includes expertise in restaurant POS system and Microsoft Office Programs (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to stay calm under pressure

  • Ability to demonstrate unfailing commitment to customer service and respond promptly to customer needs while upholding the organization’s values.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work nights, weekends and holidays

  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during the shift

  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties

  • The ability to lift, push and/or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
