Veterans Welcome at the Aurora Historical Society

Date: November 11, 2018 Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Event Description Veterans will be welcomed at the Aurora Historical Society on Sunday, November 11, 2018 before and after the downtown Aurora parade.   Doors to the Pierce Center will open at 9am and the city and historical society will be serving free coffee and donuts all morning.  A one-day-only exhibit of rare original World War I posters will be on display in the first floor gallery, along with a general World War I exhibit in the William Wulff display case located in the lobby entrance.  At 11am, the exact moment that the cease-fire was ordered on November 11, 1918, the historical society bell, donated by the Roosevelt American Legion Post 84 and normally rung only on July 4th, will be tolled at the GAR Memorial Hall across from the historical society and the reviewing stand, at 20 E. Downer, 60505.  This is in concert with a nationwide movement called Bells For Peace.   The historical society's gift shop will be open and featuring the special veterans Andy Aurora patch, $5 plus tax, members receive a 10% discount.  At 1pm a veterans open-mike event will be held in the 3rd floor gallery of the Pierce Center.
