Mar 31 - Apr 8 "Little Shop of Horrors" by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken |
Broadway musical meets sci-fi horror in this dark musical comedy. What happens when Seymour Krelborn, a meek assistant floral designer at a skid row florist, finds a strange carnivorous talking plant that promises him fame and fortune? Spoiler Alert: It does not go well. One of the longest running Off-Broadway musicals of all time, this devilishly delightful musical is sure to keep audiences screaming with laughter and tapping their toes to the 1960s inspired pop/rock score. |

Apr 4 FILM: "A SMALL ACT" |
When Hilde Back sponsored a young, rural Kenyan student, she thought nothing of it. She certainly never expected to hear from him, but years later she does. Now a Harvard graduate and a human rights lawyer for the United Nations, Chris Mburu decides to find the stranger that changed his life. Inspired by her generosity, he starts a scholarship program of his own and names it for his former benefactor. The top students in Mukubu primary school are in the exact same situation as Chris once was. They are bright, but can’t afford to pay school fees. With the creation of Chris’ fund, these students have new hope. But the program is small; how many will qualify for a scholarship? Using a strong narrative, the film interweaves seemingly separate lives into a cohesive whole. With clarity and grace, “A Small Act” bears witness to the ripple effect a single action can create. |

Apr 6 “Laying the Foundation for the ‘American Century" featuring Frank Buscher |
The U.S. Congress declared war on the Central Powers (Germany and its allies) on April 6, 1917. The decision to enter the conflict was not an easy one as most Americans preferred to remain neutral. The U.S. entry proved to be a turning point, enabling the Allies (Great Britain, France, Italy and others) to achieve victory in November 1918. The U.S. returned to a modified isolationist stance in the years following the war. Although not quite willing to act as a world power, the U.S. nonetheless played an international role. It took a second and more devastating global conflict for the U.S. to feel comfortable in its role as the world's leading power, starting what became known as the "American Century." In a conversation with the audience, Frank Buscher will explore the U.S. entry into the war and its consequences. |

Apr 10 "The Drive to Innovate" featuring Brian Greene, physicist and string theorist |
Innovation, exploration, and discovery are deeply ingrained in human nature, and the keys to their success transcend disciplines. Brian Greene uses three stories from the frontiers of science to examine how essential features — staying the course while shedding expectations, maintaining individuality while working collaboratively, accepting failure while pushing for success — can coalesce into breathtaking results. Sparking new insights, this presentation explores how we can unleash our innate drive to innovate. Brian Greene is one of the world’s leading theoretical physicists and a brilliant, entertaining communicator of cutting-edge scientific concepts. The Washington Post described him as “the single best explainer of abstruse concepts in the world today.” Greene’s national best-seller, “The Elegant Universe,” which recounts the theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics, transformed our understanding of the universe and introduced string theory, a concept that might be the key to a unified theory of the universe. The book sold over a million copies and became an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning NOVA special that Greene hosted. |

Apr 19 Jesus Christ Superstar |
A rock star stands center stage, awash in lights while tens-of-thousands of adoring fans repeat every word she sings. A football player strikes a victory pose in the end zone while a stadium erupts with ecstasy, celebrating the superhuman?s accomplishment. An endless sea of bodies stands for hours shivering in the freezing temps just to say they were there when the new leader of the free world was sworn in. We love and celebrate our idols, we always have?that is until we move on to our next idol. This is not just the story of the last 7 days of the greatest idol in history. It?s the story of the close friend who tried to save him and why that friend eventually betrayed him. This is a story of love and fear, a story of kindness and greed, a story of expectations and what happens when those expectations are not met. This is an energized rock opera that delves into the internal struggles of those mortals, those humans ? including Jesus himself ? as they drew closer to one of the most pivotal moments in history. It?s an emotionally-charged journey in which, in the end, each person discovers something about themselves when the stakes are at their highest. What began as a rock opera concept album (which dominated the U.S. charts upon its 1970 release) transformed into a global stage phenomenon that garnered 7 Tony Award nominations in the U.S. and endless awards overseas in its 40-plus years. And while thousands of productions have taken the stage in 31 different countries, rest assured, this is the production the theater community around the country will be talking about next Spring. Be a part of the conversation. |

Apr 22 Jesus Christ Superstar |
