Events for May 2017
Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce
May 1    Jesus Christ Superstar
A rock star stands center stage, awash in lights while tens-of-thousands of adoring fans repeat every word she sings. A football player strikes a victory pose in the end zone while a stadium erupts with ecstasy, celebrating the superhuman?s accomplishment. An endless sea of bodies stands for hours shivering in the freezing temps just to say they were there when the new leader of the free world was sworn in. We love and celebrate our idols, we always have?that is until we move on to our next idol. This is not just the story of the last 7 days of the greatest idol in history. It?s the story of the close friend who tried to save him and why that friend eventually betrayed him. This is a story of love and fear, a story of kindness and greed, a story of expectations and what happens when those expectations are not met. This is an energized rock opera that delves into the internal struggles of those mortals, those humans ? including Jesus himself ? as they drew closer to one of the most pivotal moments in history. It?s an emotionally-charged journey in which, in the end, each person discovers something about themselves when the stakes are at their highest. What began as a rock opera concept album (which dominated the U.S. charts upon its 1970 release) transformed into a global stage phenomenon that garnered 7 Tony Award nominations in the U.S. and endless awards overseas in its 40-plus years. And while thousands of productions have taken the stage in 31 different countries, rest assured, this is the production the theater community around the country will be talking about next Spring. Be a part of the conversation.

May 10    Webinar: Advanced Work Comp Challenges: Aging, Obesity & Co-Morbidities
The costs for workers’ compensation claims in Illinois continue to rise in spite of prior reform efforts. But you should understand what can also drive costs in way that cannot be controlled by legislation or legal precedent. Employers “take the employees as they find them” at the time the accident occurs. Employers cannot change the facts as to an employee’s age, obesity or co-morbidities and pre-existing conditions, which may delay or prohibit a full recovery. What can an employer do? We’ll discuss strategies for mitigating these claims in this 90-minute webinar. Taught by attorney G. Steven Murdock, Inman & Fitzgibbons

May 11    Webinar: Legal 101: What Claims IL Employers Can Face When Using Background Checks and How to Avoid Them
One of the most important tools that an employer has in screening and hiring quality employees is the application and hiring process. The law limits what information an employer can request on an application, as well as specific procedures that must be used when conducting background checks, using those background checks to make adverse employment decisions and in storing the background checks after the fact. As such, when using background checks, employers need to know what laws they need to comply with and what claims they should be trying to avoid. Michael D. Wong of SmithAmundsen LLC will present this important webinar. The presentation will include important information and strategies for structuring an application and hiring processes to minimize potential liability and risks.

Topics will include:
• What laws Illinois Employers should be aware of;
• Types of information employers should not use – and should be careful in using;
• Using the Internet and Social Media when hiring;
• The potential claims Illinois Employers can face; and
• Recent developments in federal and state laws and cases Illinois Employers should be aware of.

May 25    Jesus Christ Superstar
