Love Letters chronicles the story of two characters? lives, charter members of the privileged set ? Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III - and a 50-year relationship that spans second grade through the trauma of adulthood, marriage, divorce and middle age, all in the evocative epistolary form of written letters. Through the eyes of these two faulted human beings, the author provides an insider?s view of a rigidly stratified WASPish society defined by proper schools, parental expectations and a benign paternalism toward those less fortunate.
