August’s First Fridays in Downtown Aurora is August 1.
Art. Music. Fun. It’s time for First Fridays! Join your friends and neighbors at a variety of venues in downtown Aurora.
On the first Friday of each month from 6 (& earlier) to 11 pm (& later), downtown Aurora is open for art, music, food, shopping, dining, theater and more!
No ArtBar! (The ArtBar at Two Brothers Roundhouse returns in September)
1. If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave. (7 to 11 p.m.): Join us for our opening “Gallery Night”and enjoy free drinks, apps and good times. See new “Tree Bark” paintings from artist Janet Wickham. Runs through Aug. 29.
2. Allen+Pepa Architects, 121 W. Benton St. (5 to 9 p.m.): Digital Mashups featuring artist Steve Sherrel’s digital prints.
3. The Light of The Heart: A Community Art Therapy Project in Aurora, 14 W. Downer Pl. upstairs (7 to 10 p.m.): Theme is “Art Jam.”
4. Culture Stock, 43 E. Galena Blvd. (6 to 9 p.m.): Open mic night featuring musical and acoustic, family-friendly performances. Art from Aurora Art League artists.
5. David L. Pierce Art and History, 20 E. Downer Pl. (6 to 9 p.m.): On the first floor, Aurora Historical Society presents a book launch and signing: “Aurora’s East-West Football Rivalry” by Steve Solarz, and their fun History Mystery game. On the third floor, Aurora Public Art Commission presents the Jazz Occurrence Sextet, which will play free jazz and spontaneously composed music, and Achenbach will paint on canvasses placed around the band. Achenbach’s goal, he has said “Is to capture the frequency of the room through form and color and create an environment of complete freedom.”
6. VARA Design, 15 W. Downer Pl. (6 to 9 p.m.): April Dippy and Jen Evans
7. SciTech Hands On Museum, 18 W. Benton St. (6 to 8 p.m.): Free and fun for the whole family. Art stations are set up during the evening for $1 each, and a display features cameras throughout the years.
8. Green Buddha Life Sustainability Center and Eco-Arts Gallery, 205 W. Galena Blvd.
9. River’s Edge Cafe, 14 W. Downer Pl. will be open for live music.
Friend of First Fridays, Burger King on New York & Farnsworth, will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. with art by local students.
