Description
Inspired by the popular PBS television series set in post Edwardian England, The Growing Place Garden Center in Aurora, with the help of the Naperville Garden Club, is hosting its Downton Abbey Flower Faire on July 19, from 9 am to 5 pm with activities scheduled throughout the day.
"We invite visitors to step back in time into the world of Downton Abbey, a fictional Yorkshire, England, country house set in the teens and 1920s," says The Growing Place co-owner Carol Massat. "We'll skip the drama but adopt the gracious style of the Crawley family by sharing recipes from Mrs. Patmore's kitchen, offering presentations appropriate to the period and creating a country fair atmosphere at the garden center, complete with croquette and other lawn games," says Massat.
Throughout the day visitors to the Flower Faire are invited to partake in festivities reflecting the era. "Fair-goers can enter flower arrangements picked from their own gardens in a judged competition and prizes will be awarded to the best arrangements. The Naperville garden club will be helping visitors create teacup floral arrangements. Visitors can also take a class to learn the language of flowers and a class about planting terrariums," says Massat. Garden party attire is encouraged and refreshments will be served.
