Auditions for Hairspray set for June 3 at Prisco Center
Auditions for the Summer Stage production of Hairspray will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at the Prisco Community Center (150 W. Illinois Ave.) – and it’s not just for teenagers.
“We’re inviting performers of all ages – from 7 to 70 – but we especially have a lot of fun roles for young children,” said performing arts manager Kyle Donahue.
Auditions for ages 7 to 12 will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and ages 13 through adult from 7 to 9 p.m. Candidates are asked to bring sheet music for a short Broadway or Disney song cutting of 32 bars or less and a non-returnable head shot.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been onstage before or not,” said Donahue. “Everybody has special talents and we’re seeking those quirky people to be part of this production. It’s a fun, fun show for the whole family, with lots of stage time, singing and dancing.”
Hairspray is the inspiring story of a “pleasantly plump” teenager – Tracy Turnblad – who goes on a journey to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the heart of a television heartthrob and pursue stardom as a dancer.
Rehearsals begin June 5, with four performances scheduled July 18-20 at West Aurora High School. For more information, call the Prisco Center at 630-859-8606.
