Description
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon
All Members Welcome!
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon will address Aurora Regional Chamber Members and guests as she shares her views on leadership and how that affects her approach to public service.
Lt. Governor Sheila Simon offers a lifetime and legacy of public service. She is a lawyer, teacher and working mother. Her record includes four years as a Jackson County prosecutor, a decade as a Southern Illinois University law professor and participation in the Illinois Reform Commission.
As Lieutenant Governor, Simon is the second highest executive officer in Illinois, and her mission is to make government more accountable, accessible and transparent for the people of Illinois. She acts as the Governor’s point person on education reform and is leading efforts to increase college completion, inspire ethical government and protect our military bases, rural areas and waterways.
Simon conducted a fact-finding tour of the state's 48 community colleges in her first year in office to highlight to the role they play in reaching the state's college completion goal. Illinois leaders want 60 percent of working-age adults to hold meaningful college degrees or certificates by 2025, up from 41 percent today.
Family has been and continues to be an important part of Simon's life. Her parents, the late Paul and Jeanne Simon, served in the Illinois House together, and were a lifelong team of public servants. Her father, Paul, is remembered across the state for his honesty and integrity in public service.
Presenting and Table-Top Sponsorship opportunities are available.
