Description
The YWCA Aurora will provide its annual Stand Against Racism event on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at the Aurora University Perry Theater. Typically held on a college campus, YWCA Aurora’s Stand Against Racism event raises community awareness of the effects of racism and increases advocacy efforts to combat racism. This year’s event will provide a moderated panel discussion on recent and ongoing race-related issues and advocacy in the Aurora, Illinois community, as well as an interactive activity with audience members. Anticipated panelists include Susan Sosa Bachmeier (World Relief), Dr. Adrienne Coleman (IMSA), Dr. Adrienne Holloway (Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board), Shoaib Khadri (President of the Islamic Center in Naperville), and Chief Kristen Ziman (Aurora Police Department). Attendees will be invited to sign a pledge to take a Stand Against Racism, as well as have the opportunity for a group photograph with the panelists. Free food and raffles prizes will be provided. All are welcome! RSVP’s are required by April 7 by contacting Helane’ Aghayere at haghayere@ywcaaurora.org or 630-299-2281. For more information, please contact Melissa Nigro at mnigro@ywcaaurora.org or 630-299-2280.
