Another year has passed and the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce's 45th Annual Leadership Academy has come to a close. It seems like just yesterday that we, a group of twenty-three participants from diverse occupations, joined one another at the Chamber building, excited for the journey, yet unsure of what to expect. But now, as I reflect on all that I have learned and experienced, I can confidently speak for all and say that it has been an incredible and invaluable experience.

The academy provided us with a unique learning experience as we had the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the operations and leadership styles of various industries, such as Rush Copley Hospital, the Fox Valley Water Reclamation Center, and the City of Aurora City Hall. Throughout the program, we were exposed to a diverse range of perspectives and learned about leadership from corporate executives, government officials, and representatives from not-for-profit agencies. Each speaker brought their own unique insights and experiences to the table, allowing us to see how leadership can manifest in different ways, yet ultimately lead to the same goal of building a supportive and collaborative workplace culture.

We were reminded by leaders such as Jonathan Palmersten, the CEO of Gripple Inc., that true leadership is not about being in charge, but about taking care of the people under your charge. This message truly resonated with us, as we witnessed the leaders we encountered during the academy embodying this philosophy through their actions and relationships with others. It was clear that their leadership was not based on their title, but on their ability to inspire and support those around them. This lesson has had a lasting impact on us, solidifying our understanding of effective leadership.

The Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Academy has been an unforgettable journey, filled with personal and professional growth. I am grateful to the Chamber for providing this opportunity and to all the community leaders who shared their knowledge and wisdom with us. I am proud to have been a part of this experience and I am excited to see how we will use our newfound skills to make a positive impact in Aurora and beyond.
